Gornja Radgona

One of Gornja Radgona’s main attractions is its proud tradition of winemaking. The town is the birthplace of Radgonske Gorice, Slovenia’s oldest sparkling wine, produced using the méthode traditionnelle. Visitors can tour the wine cellars, learn about the centuries-old winemaking process, and, of course, indulge in tastings of the famous Radgona sparkling wines.

The town’s location along the Mura River makes it an excellent base for outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy tranquil walks along the riverbanks, fishing, or cycling on the well-maintained trails that connect Gornja Radgona to nearby towns and villages. For a unique experience, take a ride on a traditional Mura raft, an age-old way of navigating the river, while learning about the local rafting traditions.

Food enthusiasts will be delighted by the town’s culinary offerings. Gornja Radgona’s traditional dishes reflect the region’s agricultural roots, featuring hearty meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Must-try dishes include bograč (a rich meat stew), štruklji (rolled dough filled with various savory or sweet fillings), and prekmurska gibanica, a layered dessert that is a true Slovenian delicacy. Pair these delights with a glass of local wine for an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
