Getting to Veli Vir Waterfall:
After a delightful vacation on the Slovenian coast, we embarked on a short hike to Veli Vir waterfall. Although the navigation device led us astray at first, we quickly learned that the village of Sokoliči is the ideal starting point for this excursion.
Exploring Sokoliči:
Nestled within the Municipality of Koper, Sokoliči is a charming, compact village situated amidst narrow ravines. With only a handful of houses, it offers a tranquil atmosphere perfect for a family outing. We recommend parking at the designated parking lot near a small pond at the village's entrance, ensuring you do not park on private property.
The Hike to Veli Vir Waterfall:
Setting off from Sokoliči, follow the village path towards its end. At house number 12, you'll spot a wooden signpost pointing you downhill, leading you to the waterfall. The hike takes approximately 30 minutes, with a moderate difficulty level suitable for all ages. We personally undertook the journey with a baby carrier, assuring you that even younger children aged 2 and above can manage the hike comfortably.
The Enchanting Veli Vir Waterfall:
Standing at approximately eight meters in height, Veli Vir waterfall is a captivating sight. While its water flow may vary during the summer months or periods of drought, the surrounding beauty remains intact. We suggest planning your visit during spring or autumn to witness the waterfall at its fullest. However, even in the warmer months, the area boasts an undeniable allure. The forested path and the soothing aroma of pine trees, accompanied by the gentle rustling of leaves, create an enchanting holiday ambiance.
