Despite its modest size, Slovenia unfolds in four distinct regions, offering a mesmerizing canvas of mountains, forests, and more.

Caves:

Delve into the underworld with over 8,000 caverns.  Slovenia is home to several remarkable caves.

Postojna cave is a 24,120 m long karst cave system in southwestern Slovenia.  It is the second-longest cave system in the country and one of its top tourism sites.

Škocjan Caves: This cave system in Slovenia is so significant that it was entered on UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites in 1986.

Each of these caves offers unique experiences and stunning views of the underground world.  If you’re interested in exploring these natural wonders, I recommend checking their respective websites for visiting hours and other details.

Do you know what makes Slovenia famous in sports?

Slovenia is renowned not only for the remarkable achievements of its athletes but also for its prowess in organizing major sports events globally.  The teams we passionately support is integral to our identity, creating a strong sense of connection.

Slovenian sports encompass a diverse array of team and individual pursuits.  Notable team sports include football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, and handball, while skiing, ski jumping, athletics, cycling, and tennis stand out as popular individual sports.

Slovenia's Olympic participation since 1992 has been significant, showcasing our commitment to sports excellence.

Additionally, the nation boasts extraordinary athletes in extreme sports, exemplified by ultramarathon swimmer Martin Strel and Alenka Artnik, a distinguished Slovenian freediver, who achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fourth woman in history to reach a depth of 100 meters.

Her most recent record, a dive to a depth of 122 meters in the Bahamas in July 2021, further solidifies her standing in freediving.
