The square next to the Taverna bears the name of Vittore Carpaccio, the famous Venetian painter. The locals used to call it Piassal del porto (the port square). In front of the house stands the pillar of St Justina built in 1572.
The bell tower on Tito Square is one of the city's most popular sights, even at the expense of the wonderful view that opens to the visitor from the top of the city tower.
The Museum was founded in 1911, a year after the successful exhibition entitled "The First Istrian Districs Exhibition", at which the cultural heritage of Istra was presented.
